The players have been selected to take on the world #6 on Thursday, January 16 starting at 7PM on the glass court in Vanderbilt Hall in Grand Central Terminal. Admission is free.
7:00 Timbo Gonzalez – Bushwick, Brooklyn, NY. National One Wall Big Ball Champion – Handball.
7:30 Reed Endresen – Harvard Club. Reed grew up playing squash at the Apawamis Club in Rye NY and currently also plays at the Harvard Club and Racquet & Tennis Club in NYC. He represented the US in 2006 playing #3 for the US Junior Team in New Zealand at the World Juniors. Reed played four years on the Varsity Squash team at Harvard and was the Captain in his senior year in 2011. He is the 2013 Harvard Club NYC Club Champion.
7:40 Tad Friend – Harvard Club. Nationally ranked in the 50+, Tad is looking forward to watching Karim, up close, slot in that beautiful forehand drop shot
7:50 Julie Lilien – Eastern Athletic Club – Julie’s father, Bob Lilien, taught her how to play squash when she was five and she has been playing on and off ever since. In the last 12 years, she has won 14 national age and skill level championships. She plays at Eastern Athletic Club in Brooklyn Heights and teaches at the NY Sports Club in Cobble Hill.
8:00 – Yasser El Halaby – Racquet & Tennis Club. Yasser learned to play in Egypt and was a three- time British Open Junior Champion. Yasser attended Princeton University where he became the first male player to win the National Intercollegiate title four times. In Yasser’s brief stint on the PSA tour, he reached #40 in the world rankings.
8:10 – Atul Limaye – LA Sports Club – Atul learned to play squash in Sydney, Australia at the Beecroft and then MAASH clubs, before moving to New York three years ago. He plays for the 4.0 league team at Sports Club LA. His squash fantasy is winning 5 points off Karim Darwish at the TOC in 2014…
8:20 – Mike Ferreira – Racquet & Tennis Club. Mike played his junior squash in England and college squash for Trinity College in Hartford, Ct where he was the #1 player.
8:30 – Chris Callis – Union Club – Chris was Captain of the 2012 National Championship Princeton Squash team and a four time All-American.
8:40 – Rob White – West Side YMCA – Rob White hails from New York City squash powerhouse, the Westside YMCA. After picking up the sport nearly seven years ago, Rob’s been trained by YouTube videos and has worked his way up from a 3.0 to 5.0. He’s eager to beat Karim and have the video go viral.
8:50 – Lee Rosen – University Club – Lee was an All America player at the University of Pennsylvania where he was captain of the squash team.
9:00 – Clara Lehv –Yale Club. A sixth grader at the Spence School, Clara is ranked #64 in the Girls Under-13. She also plays volleyball, softball, soccer and runs track. Clara is currently being coached by three-time ToC champion Peter Nicol.
